Hybrid Breast Augmentation: Implants and Fat Together

General information about treatment in Seoul, published by MOOi Plastic Surgery Clinic for international patients. Our own approach, physicians and prices are on the pages linked at the end.

Hybrid breast augmentation combines a breast implant with fat grafting in the same operation. It aims to give the volume an implant provides with the softer edges that fat can create.

Why combine the two

An implant gives reliable, predictable volume, but in slim patients its edges can be visible or palpable, especially in the cleavage. A layer of grafted fat placed around the implant can soften that transition and refine the shape between the breasts. Fat alone, by contrast, gives only a modest increase in size.

How it is done

  1. Fat is harvested by liposuction, commonly from the abdomen, flanks or thighs.
  2. The fat is purified so that only usable fat cells are grafted.
  3. The implant is placed, and the fat is injected in small amounts into the surrounding tissue.

A bonus for many patients is that the donor area is contoured at the same time.

What to expect

Not all grafted fat survives; part of it is reabsorbed during the first months, so the final effect is judged after the swelling settles. Recovery combines that of augmentation and of liposuction: chest tightness plus bruising and a compression garment at the donor site.

Who it suits

  • Patients with thin natural tissue who want an implant to look less defined at the edges
  • Patients with some fat to spare who also want a donor area slimmed
  • Patients wanting more volume than fat transfer alone can deliver

Questions to ask

  • How much of the grafted fat is likely to remain in my case?
  • Which donor areas would you use, and how will they look afterwards?
  • How does the recovery differ from implant-only augmentation?
